NOTICE OF VACANCY - BRITISH CONSULATE GENERAL BARCELONA

ASSISTANT TO IMMIGRATION LIAISON MANAGER


A vacancy has arisen for a part time Assistant to the Immigration Liaison Manager (ILM) at the British Consulate General, Barcelona. The role will require a self-motivated and self-reliant person who will, after appropriate training, be expected to operate largely without supervision. The primary aim of the role is to provide support to the Immigration Liaison Manager (ILM).

Main duties include:

• action and follow up routine e-mails and post and handling correspondence;
• processing and maintaining accurate records of statistics;
• preparation of monthly reporting on ILM activities;
• arrange meetings, training sessions and generally manage the ILM’s diary;
•dealing with enquiries from airlines, local authorities, police forces, colleagues in the Immigration Liaison network and in the UK and working with carriers in Spain and elsewhere to further the aims of the ILM’s work;
• assisting with powerpoint presentations

The successful candidate will be accommodated in the ILM’s office at the British Consulate General, Barcelona and the jobholder will be considered part of the Consulate General team.

Fluency in English and Spanish, both spoken and written, is preferred. Knowledge of airline procedures and a basic understanding of travel documents and passports, whilst not necessary, would be beneficial. S/he will need to be able to work effectively without supervision.

This post will provide a challenging position for the successful candidate working in a fast moving and varied job alongside a number of agencies and departments both of the Spanish and the UK Governments.

Starting date: November 2010

Contract duration: permanent position subject to a probationary period of 3 months.

Salary: 1.364 Euros gross per month. Paid by 12 monthly payments.

Working hours: Part-time contract, 5 hours per day (25 per week)

Income tax: The Embassy, as a Diplomatic Mission, is exempt from Spanish legal requirements to deduct income tax from employees' salaries at source. Payment of income tax is therefore the personal responsibility of each employee and you should make suitable arrangements with the Ministry of Finance.

Social Security: You will be enrolled in the Spanish State Social Security Scheme and you will not therefore be entitled to any gratuity from the Embassy based on your gross annual salary, will be deducted monthly.
